Connecticut helmet laws
Connecticut has a partial helmet law that requires operators and passengers who are 17 years old or younger to wear a helmet. However, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports persuasive statistics that support helmet use. According to its 2011 report Connecticut Motorcyclists Fatalities by Helmet Use and Lives Saved Estimates, of the 36 motorcycle deaths that year, 10 riders were wearing helmets, 24 riders were unhelmeted, while the helmet status of the other two are unknown. In all years between 2007 and 2011, the riders who were unhelmeted when they died far outnumbered those who were helmeted.
Your choice of riding clothing can prevent serious motorcycle injuries
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) is a nonprofit group that works closely with the NHTSA, state governments, the military and other organizations to promote safe riding standards. In its Cool Gear Fool’s Gear campaign, MSF points out that your choice of clothing can help prevent motorcycle accidents and, if you are involved in a crash, can minimize such serious injuries as neck and back injuries, spinal cord injuries, brain injuries and road rash and may even save your life. MSF recommendations include:
