Stamford, Connecticut's Attorneys for Accidents With Uninsured and Underinsured Motorists
Any car accident creates difficult questions and trying times. If the accident involved an uninsured or underinsured motorist, even more questions and worries are likely to arise. Connecticut is not a "no fault" state when it comes to car insurance. This means that anyone injured in a car accident has the right to immediately seek compensation for his or her losses from the at-fault driver's insurance company. But what if the at-fault driver is uninsured? What if he or she does not have enough insurance? What if you are the victim of a hit-and-run accident, and the other driver left the scene instead of sharing insurance information?
If you have been in a car accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist, seek legal assistance to protect your right to get full and fair compensation for property damage, unpaid medical bills, lost wages, future medical needs and pain and suffering.

Your Rights and Responsibilities Under Connecticut's Car Insurance Laws
All drivers in Connecticut must by law carry at least $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident of bodily injury liability insurance. Obviously, you can carry higher limits and it is advisable that you carry more insurance than the legal minimum. As a Connecticut driver, unless you opt out in writing, you must also carry the same limits for uninsured motorist or underinsured motorist coverage. Here's what it means:
Uninsured motorist — If a driver without insurance hits your car, your insurance should cover your personal injuries and property damage up to your policy limits. Your insurance premiums should not increase.
Underinsured motorist — The at-fault driver may have insurance, but not enough to cover all your injuries and property damage. In that case, you can pursue insurance coverage through underinsured motorist coverage on your insurance policy if your limits of coverage are higher than the at-fault driver. Your insurance premiums should not increase.
